Overwhelmed at work and lonely at home, a civil servant's life takes a heartbreaking turn when a medical diagnosis tells him his time is short. Bill Nighy, as the stiff, repressed Mr. Williams, is so unlike his usual twitchy, smirking self you almost find yourself on edge during his performance, hoping he won't resort to it but, thankfully, he doesn't.
