About us
The village hall stands alongside the picturesque green at the heart of the historic village of Wethersfield, surrounded by the glorious rolling countryside of North Essex.
The village hall opened to the public in 1921 for the benefit of veterans of the Great War thus, this year it has been serving the local community for 100 years! The hall has seen many historic occasions celebrated within its walls.
The hall is available for hire by local and non-local residents alike. With clean, modern facilities the hall provides a venue for the purpose of recreation, public meetings, corporate events, celebrations, a place for local clubs and associations to enjoy and performances by local drama and music groups. New clubs are encouraged and welcomed.
Main Hall
The main hall is 22 x 8 meters not including the stage area and is acoustically treated to aid intelligibility in live performaces. The stage is suitable for drama/music group productions, bands and public speaking. There is a PA system with radio microphones, music playback via a CD/DVD player and facilities for computer audio playback, video is via the projector and cinema screen. There are sufficient tables and chairs for theatre style seating and banqueting layouts, modern male, female and disabled toilets with baby changing facilities. For use by both halls there is a fully equipped kitchen including 2 fridges,1 freestanding freezer, 1 microwave oven, 2 kettles,1 urn, a double oven range style cooker and 120 place settings of crockery and cutlery, all of which is available for hire.
The large hall also boasts good disabled access via a ramp.
Small Hall
The small hall is approximately 10 x 5 meters and is acoustically treated. There is a moveable bar/counter and direct access to the kitchen. This room is suitable for meetings and small group activities. The soundproofing of this hall has been improved allowing activities to take place in both hall's simultaneously (provided they are not excessively noisy). Also provided is a wall mounted large screen computer monitor ideal for presentation use. There is rear access via Old Mill Chase which can be used by users of the small hall and there is also a unisex WC, please note that rear access involves steps and there is no disabled WC in this part of the building, although front access and disabled toilet use is available in the large hall depending on availability.
